The health and social care system in England faces great pressures that impact on its ability to provide safe and equitable care in a sustainable way. In essence, it is facing a crisis and requires an effective humanitarian response. This needs health, social care and community leaders to come together to take stock of the situation and consider what we can do to make a positive difference despite the challenges faced. There is huge potential in working together as partners with communities. There is great promise in the unfolding technology and innovation landscape, but this needs to be correctly harnessed to avoid worsening inequalities. There is much learning from efforts of the last decade to curate an approach to population health and equity that is realistic, practical, locally tailored, nationally supported, and connected across the country. Especially given the recent change in national political landscape, it is an opportune moment to come together to consider what can be done by each of us within the current picture of challenge to drive improvements in health and tackling inequality.
Centre for Population Health is a practical action focussed think tank that has been working to support systems around England to build leadership for population health and equity; working across sectors to drive improvements in practice. We are delighted to announce that we will be holding our first ever conference in Bradford on 27th November 2024. This will bring together health, social care and community leaders from across UK who are interested in population health and equity to share ideas, examples of good practice, and start to plan practical steps that we can all take to keep driving action for prevention, improving quality and safety, tackling inequalities, and most importantly for putting communities and staff at the heart of change efforts.
We are purposely hosting our conference in Bradford, West Yorkshire in North England which is an area known for its commitment to tackling health inequalities and to its local communities. We are using a community venue to promote the still relatively under-recognised and immense power of local organisations as experts, change leaders and key partners. We are giving opportunities for community organisations and under-represented groups to promote their work and thinking. We will come together across sectors to consider given this what unlocking improvements really means, learn from and build on existing efforts, and create steps forward.
Join us - Help to accelerate efforts for improving health and tackling health inequalities in practice. Whatever your sector, role or organisation - you have an important part to play in driving improvements. Everyone is welcome.
